So you’re having a baby… A prenatal seminar focused on maternal physical health and wellbeing in preparation for an optimal and well-informed pregnancy and recovery.
In our work at Marathon with moms of all ages, we have repeatedly heard from women that they weren’t prepared for the physical changes they would encounter during pregnancy, the changes that often persisted or appeared after delivery, and had no idea what could be done to manage or prevent these occurrences. This seminar, based on current research and expert clinical experience, has been developed by our physical therapists with those specific needs in mind so that women no longer say, “I wish someone would have told me…”. It is designed to be a complement to standard childbirth and parenting preparation classes with a sole emphasis on educating and empowering mothers about the physical considerations of pregnancy and childbirth in order to make their pregnancy and postpartum experience as optimal as possible.
Topics covered include proper body mechanics during pregnancy and early postpartum, exercise considerations, including particular attention to abdominal muscle changes and abdominal exercise, habits and exercises that are protective for the pelvic floor, and considerations for early postpartum physical recovery.

With the national cesarean rate on the rise, more and more women are facing a different set of physical challenges immediately postpartum compared with uncomplicated vaginal deliveries. This seminar, based on current research and expert clinical experience, has been developed by our physical therapists with these specific new challenges in mind and aims to empower women to actively participate in their postpartum recovery.
Topics include specific abdominal exercises to practice while pregnant that aid in recovery, and instruction in the following for use during the immediate postpartum period: body mechanics and mobility, scar management, proper toileting, and return to exercise.

So you had a baby… A postpartum education and exercise seminar for physical restoration after delivery
Have you ever considered that while it is standard practice to consult physical therapy after an ankle sprain, that after nine months of pregnancy and the unquestionable strain of labor and delivery, women are expected to recover without intervention? Or perhaps, not expected to ever recover fully and instead to accept that as the cost of childbirth? This seminar, based on current research and expert clinical experience, is designed to equip all mothers with the knowledge to actively participate in their postpartum physical recovery, better understanding the physical changes that have occurred and restoring pre-pregnancy physical function as much as possible.
Topics include proper body mechanics for childcare, guidelines for return to exercise and other pre-pregnancy activities, understanding of proper pelvic floor function and exercise, and rehabilitative exercises for the trunk, including the abdominals.
